Cat Kennel Services

  The Pet Bed and Breakfast is a Completely Cageless Cat Boarding Kennel.  Sorry, NO DOGS!  We place great emphasis on the emotional, mental and physical well being of the Ottawa Cats and Small Animals that stay with us.

  Each Pet is provided an interesting, social and low stress environment that includes an abundance of human attention, interaction and affection.  Since 2001, The Pet Bed and Breakfast has been at the forefront, as the catalyst, for a paradigm shift in the way people choose to board their cats and kittens.

  The founder, Melanie Walker, firmly believes that, one day,  'cats in cages' will be a thing of the past. 'As people begin to open themselves up to the possibilities, they will begin to see cages as unacceptable alternatives that are harmful to our cats' needs, on all levels.

  All cats that Board at our Cageless Cat Kennel must show proof of current vaccination records at check-in time.  For a full outline of the vaccines and procedures that we require before admission, please refer to our `Vaccination Requirements` Menu Link. 

  All adult cats must be spayed/neutered to be left in the group environments. Cats which are less than 6 months in age, are usually permitted in the group areas but they will be assessed on an individual basis.  'Special Needs' Cats are welcome (diabetic, epileptic, post operation, special diet, etc.) Many times, these cats will require an Individual Room.  Our rates can be found in the 'About Us' and 'FAQ' sections.  Rooms are subject to availability.

Indoor Cat Group Area

This large room offers a lot of height, socialization and relaxation opportunities:

• large sunny windows with window benches,
• a large kitchen with cabinets 'built for cats' (lots of private spots with pillows),
• many unique, large play structures (airplane, space ship, ferris wheel, 3 storey castle, etc.) for those that like climbing and height,
• a tiled loft area that provides an excellent look-out, with cat-sized comfy beds and scratching posts to the top,
• a 'tree house filled room' with lots of individual hidey-holes,
• a large fish aquarium and an  8 foot bird house for one of our resident lovebirds, BigBird2.

Oudoor Cat Group Area

This room provides a multitude of climbing, hiding and playing opportunities!

• a sunny window area with wide window sils,
• a complex play structure that includes 8 cat-sized bunk beds, equipped with scratching posts to the top, comfy flannel sheets & stuffed toys; and a wall climbing aparatus with ceiling level tunnels running through it all,
• a 'carpeted tree forest' constructed with carpeted tree trunks, branches and flowing leaves for cats to explore,
• a small cat village with 4 storey townhouses, built with lots of shutters and windows to look or jump out of.  They also feature shingled roofs that are favorite sleeping spots.
• another very playful resident LoveBird, BigBird1, complete with his 8 foot birdhouse
• lets not forget to mention, the plethora of unique playstructures such as: pirate boat, space rocket, English phone booths, Kitty Cabs, our wood & carpet tractor, equipped with a wagon load of carpeted hay bails... perfect for snuggling into and snoozin' the afternoon away..

Individual Rooms

  Each individual room is spacious and tastefully tiled with ceramic.  They are clean, bright and include a large window and french door to give a very open feeling. These rooms are intended for 'Special Needs' Cats ( diabetic, kidney problems, urinary tract infections, special diet, etc.) and Small Animals such as ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds. An overly stressed cat would be separated from the group environments, if needed, and placed in their own individual room as well, although this is a rare event.  Shy, nervous or scared cats are happier in the group environment, to hide or climb high up, where they will feel safe.

Small Animals

  The Small Animals are accommodated in individual rooms and are handled daily, based on their level of socialization. Some animals, such as litter box trained ferrets and rabbits, are allowed to run freely within their room, or in our large entrance way, for fun and exercise. We require that people supply a cage for their small animals as well as all of their bedding, litter, foods, pellets, water bottles, etc.  We can store your fresh fruits and vegetables in our fridge, if applicable.

  Two sets of french doors separate the Outdoor Cat Group Area from the individual rooms, but the cats & small animals can watch each other at play and rest.  You wouldn't believe how big a cat's eyes get, when they see one of these critters coming down the hallway!

Gift Certificates

  We offer Pet Bed and Breakfast Gift Certificates.  They can be purchased in person, at the kennel, by phone order, or online.  You can make them for a specific amount, (ie. cost of one cat, for a 2 weeks stay, including gst), or in the amount that you wish.  They can be picked up at the kennel, we can mail them to your address, alternately, we can mail them to the intended recipient, in your name.

Door to Door Service

  We offer our customers a Door-to-Door service, within the Ottawa-Gatineau region.  A small fee does apply.                    All pick-ups and returns must be arranged and booked in advance.  This service is normally only available weekdays from 8am to 6pm and Saturday mornings.
